Coil

This collection of vessels was constructed using a coil hand building technique. This method of construction has been used to shape clay into vessels for thousands of years by different cultures. The coil hand building technique for me was a momentary change in stylistic direction where I explored more traditional large organic forms.

I constructed the vessels at the end of 2019 and completed the graphic elements during lockdown in 2020. Given the restricted access to my studio at this time, the circumstances allowed me to take time out and utilise my experience as a graphic designer to decorate the vessels with more bold graphic elements using a hand painted black underglaze.
